Nacido en Jalisco, México en 1964, lleva prácticamente toda su vida dedicándose a la gran pantalla, compaginando su labor de director y guionista con su reconocido trabajo como productor y artista de efectos especiales. Ha creado inolvidables películas tales como Mimic, Blade II, Hellboy, El espinazo del diablo o El laberinto del fauno (que fue galardonada con tres Oscar).
