Numerosos alpinistas han escrito páginas gloriosas o patéticas. Sus relatos poseen la emoción de la aventura y el valor del testimonio. Ahora bien, entre los muchos libros que se han publicado sobre las epopeyas del alpinismo, pocos tan singulares como «La montaña y el hombre» de Georges Sonnier.

Since ancient times, man has been impressed by mountains. He conceived them, at first as the abode of the gods, later as a stronghold of mysteries and threats, and only much later did he dare to undertake their discovery. From that moment on, the history of the relationship between the mountain and man hastened: conquests, exploits, but also tragedies, which were their price. Many mountaineers have written glorious or pathetic pages. These stories have the emotion of adventure and the value of testimony. Yet among the many books that have been published on mountaineering epics, few are as unique as La montaña y el hombre by Georges Sonnier.

Georges Sonnier had his medical studies interrupted due to war. When he returned to school he turned to literature, publishing novels and dramatic works, many of which have been performed on stage, radio, or television. Sonnier is also a specialist in Italian theater. The best of his work has been dedicated to the mountain, be it a story, a novel, a memoir, or an essay.
